Schaumburg, IL, USA – Recent data from ISACA, Tech Workforce 2020: The Age and Gender Perception Gap, finds that there is a disparity of beliefs between men and women when it comes to salaries, job promotions and overall representation in the global technology sector.

According to the survey of more than 3,500 respondents commissioned by ISACA’s SheLeadsTech program:

  • 56% of female respondents believe the lack of female role models in the sector is the primary reason for underrepresentation of women.
  • 70% of the workforce can be considered ‘in-play’ in terms of being recruited, saying they definitely or may foresee changing jobs in the next two years. Additionally, almost half (49%) of the <30 segment has changed jobs or employers in the past two years, a higher rate than the 34% of the total respondent population that has changed jobs.
  • The majority (over half) of the business technology workforce report experiencing stress or burnout-- prompted by heavy workloads, tight deadlines, long hours and lack of resources.

Additionally, recent social media polls from ISACA and Infosecurity Group found that 49% of respondents on Twitter and 62% of respondents on Facebook do not think that organizations are doing enough to recruit, retain and promote women in tech jobs.

“Acknowledgment of the perception gap uncovered by this survey is a critical first step in working to address the inequities at the core of the tech workforce. Organizations cannot continue to ignore these concerns and expect that their staff will continue to be happy and productive in their roles,” says Asaf Weisberg, ISACA board director, and founder and CEO of introSight. “The next step is enacting change and continuing the discussion at the Infosecurity ISACA Conference next month is a good opportunity to further advance this important process.”

Similar industry topics will be discussed at the upcoming inaugural Infosecurity ISACA North America Expo and Conference on 20-21 November, 2019 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, NY, including emerging technologies, cyber threat intelligence, leadership, risk, compliance and data analytics.

“We look forward to welcoming over 60 exhibitors to the Infosecurity ISACA Expo and Conference next month,” say Nicole Mills, Exhibition Director at Infosecurity Group. “Delegates will be able to source and evaluate a wide range of new cyber tech solutions first-hand on the expo floor.”

The event – whose sponsors include Galvanize, Vanguard Integrity Professionals – is expected to draw more than 1,000 business technology leaders and cybersecurity professionals to learn, share insights and guidance, and network with experts and peers on how to best address some of the industry’s most pressing challenges.
